Tissue
Tissue is a poem written by Imitaz Dharker with themes of power, religion, and humanity explored through the means of paper. Throughout the poem, Dharker references a number of papers many uses and means; despite being so fragile and simple, paper seems to hold an immense amount of control on our lives as people, our economy is based around the coloured paper portraits for the faces of the old so easily ripped and teared yet so much influence comes with it. Religions are formed and based on stained bricks of tissue yet they hold gods and the faith of billions inside their pages.
Dharkers poem delves into such an everyday and miscellaneous material and encourages thought for the reader as well as exploring a variety of themes on top of looking at the paper as a material itself.
Tissue is the basis for my project and was the largest inspiration for all of my work.
